Program Reviews: Pay-per-Lead

Websponsors

ClickQuick.com Rating: $$$$ out of $$$$

Company Overview:
Websponsors is a pay-per-lead program which allows webmasters to earn cash by displaying ads for Websponsors' clients. You can display the ads as much or as little as you like, and remove them at any time. You will be compensated based on the number of visitors who click-through, and participate in a survey, or accept a free trial of a product.

Program Details:
Websponsors makes it easy for you to join their program, and will never force you to carry ads you don't want. You simply run Websponsors' clients' banners on the pages you have available impressions, or use text or content based links to most of the offers.

Most of the ads will pay you between $0.50 and $2 for each visitor who clicks through and participates in a survey or accepts a free trial. With some special offers, this can go as high as $50 to $75. As stated above, a higher percentage of click-throughs will be converted into commissions since the visitor is not required to purchase anything, compared to affiliate programs. They also list a few offers that pay on a per-click basis.

Since the ads pay based on visitors who accept free trials of products, a higher percentage of click-throughs will result in commissions for you, compared to programs where the visitor must purchase something.

Websponsors also offers a special site called Free2Try, where all of the current special offers are listed and categorized. As an affiliate, you receive your own version of this page, and you can simply promote it as a destination for your visitors. Once you have referred visitors there, you will receive the same pay-per-lead commissions you would as if you had advertised each program individually. This can save a lot of time, since you won’t have to update the page manually yourself.

Lastly, Websponsors also now offers a two-tier commission system, allowing you to earn 10% commissions on the sales that new affiliates you refer make. This program is very similar to that which Bach Systems offers.

The only main disadvantages of the Websponsors program is that their online commission tracking statistics are only updated weekly or so, when they receive information from their clients. This makes it somewhat difficult to track on a daily basis which of the offers are working best for your site.

Additionally, checks, although issued monthly, include a built-in delay since Websponsors waits until they have been paid themselves, before issuing checks to affiliates. However, once the initial delay has passed, you should receive checks regularly, assuming your account is active and reaches the mimimum check size.

Online commission tracking is made available, however, as mentioned above, they are somewhat delayed since Websponsors relies on their clients for this information. Payment history with WebSponsors has been perfect. I have received no complaints whatsoever, and checks are always received on time.

Websponsors can make an excellent income opportunity for sites that are looking to fill unsold advertising inventory, or for sites that use it as their primary income source. It is also especially well suited to beginning sites, since conversion rates will generally be higher than pay-per-sale type programs. Text links, email newsletter ads, or personal recommendations have also been proven to be quite effective. One email newsletter has reported an income of over $10,000 monthly simply by running various free WebSponsors offers in each newsletter they mail out.

One strategy that can be effective for maximizing revenue with Websponsors is to individually promote programs that you think match your site’s visitor’s interestes. But, then also use the Free2Try web site you are given to stir up additional business. For example, you could offer a free trial issue of a magazine that closely relates to your site, and then below that include a tag line such as ‘Looking for other freebies?’ with a link to the Free2Try site. This way you may be able to earn commissions on several offers while your visitor is in the mood for signing up for free trials.

Visitor Feedback:
Feedback on this program has been very positive. Many webmasters report that pay-per-lead networks such as this are their top sources of income. However, there have been a few visitors that have reported doubts with Websponsors' tracking ability, and that some commissions may not be being recorded accurately. This has warranted a move to Onresponse, a competing network, for some ClickQuick visitors.

Update: Incoming feedback seems to continue to point out that Websponsors is underperforming similar programs such as Onresponse, Direct Leads and Cyberbounty.
